Where Badlands Generate
Badlands generate in dry climate regions, often near deserts and savannas. Layered terracotta, red sand, dead bushes, and orange cliffs are their clearest signals.

How to Find Badlands
The layered terracotta palette is visible from a distance, making broad terrain scanning more effective than searching individual valleys.
What to Look For
- Search beyond deserts and savannas because nearby climate is often compatible
- Climb for a long view and scan for orange-red terracotta bands
- Follow warm-biome borders rather than crossing into snowy or lush regions
Find Badlands with Commands
Use /locate biome minecraft:badlands in Java Edition; Bedrock autocomplete may list badlands and its variants separately.
Common Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- Badlands are uncommon and may be far from spawn
- Eroded and wooded variants can border or replace the basic biome
- A small terracotta build or exposed clay is not a biome clue
