Want the short version? Compare the main types of Minecraft map tools.
01
Generated World Versus Explored World
Minecraft only saves chunks after the game generates or loads them. Tools that read those saved chunks can make an accurate record of explored terrain and player-made changes, but they cannot render chunks that do not exist in the save. A seed-based map predicts the generated terrain instead, allowing MineyMap to show regions you have not visited.
The Tradeoff
- Generated maps reveal distant terrain before exploration
- Explored-chunk maps can reproduce buildings and changed blocks
- MineyMap prioritizes whole-world planning over block-level change tracking

02
Plan Routes Before Spending Hours Traveling
A wider map helps answer practical questions before you leave your base: which direction leads toward the terrain you want, which supported structures can be combined into one journey, and where a new base would connect several destinations. Save named pins so the plan remains useful after you start moving.
Useful Planning Questions
- Which destination is closest to my current position?
- Can I visit several locations along one route?
- Where should I place a new base or travel hub?
- Which coordinates should I save before entering another dimension?

03
Keep the Whole-world View During Live Play
MineyMap connects the planning view with the world you are actively playing. Your position moves on the map, the minimap keeps nearby context visible, and the larger companion window lets you zoom back out whenever you need to rethink the route.

04
When You Need a Map of What Actually Changed
MineyMap's generated map does not show a house you built, a mountain you flattened, or nearby entities. For a detailed record of explored and changed terrain, consider a world-file renderer such as uNmINeD or a Java map mod such as JourneyMap or Xaero's Minimap. Those tools answer a different question: what is saved here now, rather than what does this seed generate over there?
Pick by the Question You Are Asking
- Where could I go? Use a generated whole-world view
- What did we build? Use a saved-world renderer or explored-region map
- Where am I now? Use a live companion or minimap
- What should our server publish? Use a server web map
