Where Nether Wastes Generate
Nether Wastes are the classic red Nether biome, dominated by netherrack with lava seas, glowstone, quartz, gravel, and sparse Nether vegetation.
How to Find Nether Wastes
Nether Wastes are the broad netherrack-dominated baseline of the dimension, most apparent where specialized biome vegetation falls away.
What to Look For
- Move away from dense fungal forests, blue Soul Sand Valleys, and gray Basalt Deltas
- Look for broad red netherrack terrain with relatively little vegetation
- Build marked tunnels so repeated biome borders do not send you in circles
Find Nether Wastes with Commands
Choose the command for your edition or variant. Run it while you are in the Nether. Autocomplete can confirm the identifier before you run it.
Java
/locate biome minecraft:nether_wastesBedrock
/locate biome minecraft:hellCommon Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- Netherrack appears throughout the Nether, so use the overall terrain and fog
- A small clearing inside another biome may not be Nether Wastes
- Open red terrain remains dangerous because of ghasts and lava
