Where Trail Ruins Generate
Trail ruins generate mostly underground in specific wooded and old-growth biomes. Usually only a small terracotta or gravel tip is visible at the surface.

How to Find Trail Ruins
Most of a trail ruin remains buried, so the search is really for its small surface tip rather than a complete visible structure.
What to Look For
- Search taigas, snowy taigas, old-growth taigas, old-growth birch forests, and jungles
- Watch for isolated terracotta and suspicious gravel at ground level
- Excavate slowly with a brush so suspicious blocks are not destroyed
Find Trail Ruins with Commands
Use /locate structure minecraft:trail_ruins in Java Edition; use autocomplete for the Bedrock identifier.
Common Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- Most of the ruin is buried
- Breaking suspicious gravel normally destroys its archaeology loot
- Natural gravel patches can resemble the first surface clue
