Where Shipwrecks Generate
Shipwrecks generate in oceans and along beaches. They may be upright, sideways, broken, buried, or partly above water.

How to Find Shipwrecks
Shipwrecks vary greatly in orientation and exposure, so a partial wooden outline can be more meaningful than a recognizable ship shape.
What to Look For
- Travel coastlines and shallow oceans by boat in daylight
- Use night vision or clear water to identify wooden outlines below
- Check each section because supply, treasure, and map chests can be separated
Find Shipwrecks with Commands
Use /locate structure minecraft:shipwreck in Java Edition; choose shipwreck from Bedrock autocomplete.
Common Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- Sand or gravel can bury much of the wreck
- A broken wreck may have fewer chest sections
- Drowning while digging is a bigger risk than the structure itself
