Where End Cities Generate
End cities generate on the outer End islands, far beyond the central dragon island. End ships appear only with some cities.
How to Find End Cities
End Cities only appear across the outer islands, so reaching that region is the essential first stage of the search.
What to Look For
- Defeat the Ender Dragon and use an End gateway, or bridge roughly 1,000 blocks from the central island
- Search large outer islands and scan the skyline for purpur towers
- Carry blocks, ender pearls, slow-falling potions, and a safe return plan
Find End Cities with Commands
Use /locate structure minecraft:end_city while in the End. The result can be far away and does not guarantee an End ship.
Common Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- End cities do not generate on the central island
- Small outer islands are less useful search targets than broad landmasses
- Not every End City spawns an Elytra ship
