How to Find Villages
Villages can take several architectural forms, but paths, farms, and organized rooflines consistently separate them from natural terrain.
What to Look For
- Travel through plains, deserts, savannas, taigas, and snowy plains and scan from high ground
- Look for paths, farms, lamps, hay bales, and regular rooflines
- Search during daylight and follow bells or villagers once nearby
Find Villages with Commands
Use /locate structure minecraft:village_plains or another village variant in Java; autocomplete shows available variants. Bedrock may accept a general village identifier.
Common Search Problems
If the search is taking much longer than expected, check these common causes.
- Not every eligible biome contains a village
- Abandoned villages can look damaged and contain zombie villagers
- A village near a biome border may use a neighboring biome's building style
